One of the outstanding stories started by driving by her rabbi and leaving him stranded with the belief that she was not allowed to be alone in a vehicle with him. Then there's the one about her husband, the gardener, who keeps manure in their nine passenger (to accommodate their tribe of 9 children, including a set of twins) van and how babysitters react to the odor.This book could very well be titled "The Lighter Side of Raising a Family of Eleven" for the way it brings laughter to raising a family and looking at the positive part of parenting and marriage. There was a study that showed reading happy and funny books or watching the same kind of movies help make a person recover from illness, live longer, and come out of depression --this is one of those books.

This book was like sitting down with your best friend over a cup of hot cocoa. Every chapter was funny, insightful and "real". Mrs. Deray has captured the essence of a well functioning, with a large dash of humor large family. Her insights into Jewish values was also interesting and informative. A book that once I started, I couldn't put it down. The illustrations were adorable.

THIS BOOK IS DELIGHTFUL, CUTE HILARIOUS SWEET FULL OF LAUGHS AND ALOT OF LOVE I JUST LOVED IT IT HAD ME IN STICHES ALL THE TIME IT REALLY TOUCHED MY HEART AND SOUL I HOPE THAT CHANA WILL WRITE ANOTHER HILARIOUS BOOK I JUST LOVED IT. I AM GOING TO BUY ANOTHER FOR A FAMILY FRIEND WHO LIKE TO READ MY SWEET AND HIARIOUS BOOKS. I THINK SHE WILL JUST LOVE THIS BOOK LIKE I LOVE IT.

This is one of the worst books I ever read. It uses tons of annoying metaphors to explain simple concepts at a high level without actually explaining them in needed level of technical details.Ten metaphors to explain what Blockchain is. Another five metaphors to explain what EVM is. A subchapter on explaining difference between Digital and Analog computer, seriously? With all due respect to Rear Admiral Grace Hopper, and I do mean it, what does she has to do with Ether? Nothing! Why is her picture taking half of the page?Finally on page 72 you get to section titled â€œLearning to Program the EVMâ€. But your excitement does not last long. This section starts with this sentence: â€œSometimes itâ€™s easier to learn a new habit than to break old one.â€ And then spends five paragraphs explaining what it means without making much sense.At last, on page 99 (you are past half a book now) you get to practical exercise of creating Token (a type of Smart Contract). There are a few screen shots, but none of them readable, was it so hard to make it figures bigger?To do that exercise you are required to copy and paste some code from GitHub. There is no explanation in the book what this code dose. The code is not reproduced in its entirety in the book; there is just fuzzy picture of it. Yet there is a clearly looking picture of Grace Hopper...This is where I am now, there a few more chapters to go through, if I find something useful in them I will update this review, but I hugely doubt that

It was very painful to read through the book. The author tends to write things he wants to talk about without considering what readers want to read. For example, under chapter title of "Mist Browser", he talks about many different things with very little touching of what a Mist browser does. Piles of paragraphs with no clear logical paths or relations are throughout the book almost everywhere.I was reading another one-star comment: "This is one of the worst books I ever read. It uses tons of annoying metaphors to explain simple concepts at a high level without actually explaining them in needed level of technical details." I cannot agree more. Lack of technical depths really made this book one of the worst I ever read, too. I wasn't sure how it could have gotten so many 5-star ratings. I guess it wasn't written for me.

Solidity is covered in just a couple of chapters. A kind of scattered writing format with a lot of introductory background. Not sure why anyone interested in learning solidity would need so much basic background info. But then again...it is titled as just an introduction.

The topics follow no logical flow. Topics are like headlines on one page and then three pages later a little detail, and then three pages later a little more detail, and three chapters later we continue with the topic. The book is an incoherent mumbo-jumbo of facts poured into a blender and dumped into this book. A Google search has a more logical flow on the topics.

It does not teach the programming language of Solidity which was what I was looking for. It teaches the general aspect of blockchains, crytocurrency mining, and what language ethereum is using. This is something you can learn in Youtube or Wikipedia.

Its a great read for a developer or CEO. strategic jewels come often, and its very thorough.the book has a huge amount of http links to great materials too.Its not a developer cookbook. But its very very good. Its what I call a Gateway book. Itlets you into the Ethereum "Room" and expands on all the technologies inside...its a crowded room!Is ethereum a success above and beyond bitcoin? neither tech addresses the fact that3 billion people in the third world cannot afford the bandwidth to use it, even if itsa light client that does not download the blockchain. A decentralized society will notbe achieved if nearly half the world's people cannot participate.

The first four chapters discuss how 2+2=4. The latter chapters repeat the first four and introduce about 1 poorly formatted code example and introduce incredibly simple programming concepts of any language, like what a boolean is.If you were looking for technical detail for the block chain or Solidity, look elsewhere.

The lack of clarity is really disappointing. The book is poorly organized and is not technical or rigorous.

This is a profound book and has genuinely changed the way I teach. The sad part is how long ago this book was first published, and how little has changed to reflect the research in the school system.

I found this very interesting, as it does contradict the popular theories of rewards for good work, for good grades, etc. I realized that I had completely "bought in" to this point of view, and yet it didn't match how I am motivated!I think the bottom line is that "do this and you will get that" is an easy way to administer both rewards and punishments. It allows us to be "consistent" without requiring us to go deeper in understanding motivation and behavior of our children or employees. It allows us to believe that we have used effective "discipline" - again without having to engage in uncomfortable or difficult conversations.Bottom line: Kohn makes a great case against "do this and you will get that." But the alternative is not as simple, and that is probably why we fall back to "do this..." so readily.

Interesting information. Worth reading! If you're going to read this, though, make sure you read the follow-up books for advice about what to do instead of offering rewards and punishments.

Not only is Alfie Kohn's "Punished by Rewards" insightful, witty, and a change we should all consider making in our lives, it is precisely what society needs. The unsettling reality of our world, our society, our businesses, and schools is one which we can't just cover up with platitudes, batons, and shiny cars. It's precisely this discomfort we need to embrace. Every educator, every parent, every person who cares about happiness ought to read this book. I won't punish you and I definitely won't reward you if you do, the reward is in the reading.

This writer turned many of my assumptions upside-down about how to raise and educate children, and even how to encourage employees in the workplace. It is a very well-written and thought-provoking book!

This was a great book. Even though it gave evidence of the many mistakes that I've made in raising children and being a teacher I realize now how valuable it is to learn new methods. From what we are challenged with by this author, we can move forward to help our children rather than control them.

I first read this book shortly after it was published, and it was the trigger for me to change the direction of my career! I had been a consultant in the arena of compensation programs for 10 years and was frustrated with the results - people paid my firm big bucks to put together pay programs that did NOT get them what they wanted, and I was a part of that. Kohn's book immediately made sense to me and I left that firm shortly thereafter.I am no scientist, but I certainly trust "good" science and find it triggers my thinking about what we can do differently. We are closer today than we were when Kohn first published his book to finding alternative methods of paying people that allow real high performing organizations to exist. It will be difficult for many organizations to change, but those who do will excel in the marketplace, I believe. I am in for the ride, thanks to Alfie Kohn. This book is super cute and fun to color in. Only several of the pages were stuck together. Not too badly and have little evidence of being carefully torn apart from each other. I feel for the trouble of having to separate several of the pages only takes away 1 Star.

pictures are fun to color wish artist would have left a margin around pictures so that the words wouldn't have got cut off on some of the pages the words run past the edge of the page so some letters are 1/2 missing other than that fun book to color.

Images are okay I guess but the book itself is very cheaply put together.

The rhyming text often does not scan and forced rhymes such as "toured"/"aboard" are sprinkled throughout. Ong's illustrations feature pastel colors and a train that looks very much like its forebear. Children and adults of different ethnic groups and genders greet it on its route. While this is a pleasant book with a much-needed message of confidence and perseverance, that message can only be understood by older children and adults. To pair it with illustrations that have a definitely "young" look makes for an uncomfortable fit. And this text breaks no ground that has not already been mined in Dr. Seuss's Oh, the Places You'll Go! (Random, 1990). I originally bought this book for my oldest son, who was obsessed with trains when he was three. Although he liked the book's pictures and rhymes, he did not really understand the "story" and grew bored with it. Now that he is seven, I reread this to him and he really enjoyed it for its message. We stopped at the end of each page and discussed what he thought it meant, which was pretty much spot on for the most part. Is this a bad book? No. But is it good? Is it complete? Is it comprehensive? Can you easily find specific information? Well... that's where the problems come in.First of all, let me say this, so that anybody reading the review has some idea of where the reviewer is coming from. I used to use AE quite a bit several years ago, but I basically haven't touched it since at least 2014. So there's a LOT I don't remember too clearly about exactly how everything works, and it's a complex program, obviously. And just as obviously, there have been a lot of updates (even though the basics are the same.) I always used the Trish and Chris Meyer books in the past, but the last published edition was in 2010. So, as far as books... there aren't a lot of choices. There are a lot of random videos out there, and there's also lynda.com (more about that later), but there are just not many selections at all for the old school analog book.First, the good: This book is well-written, and the examples are clear. The tutorials are fun and well-paced, also well-explained. The basics are... well, KIND OF basically covered (shape, text, animation, layers, masks, puppet tools, rotobrush, color correction, 3D features included the camera tracker, advanced editing, rendering.) The problem came in when I started thinking about how well this would all work for someone who was a REAL beginner rather than a past user who just hadn't picked up the new edition for a few years. Because the truth is, the basics aren't really covered, and here's the proof.Look at an old copy of the last Trish and Chris Meyer 2010 book, *Creating Motion Graphics With After Effects.* I have a copy on the desk right now. It's 752 pages. The Classroom in a Book is 399 pages. Yep-- 752 pages to cover the OLDER version, and 388 pages to cover the NEWER version, with all the added features. Lots and lots and lots of the essentials have been cut out. Look for a list of keyboard shortcuts-- it's not there. Look for the older, much longer chapters going into detail about fundamental concepts like layers and keyframes and editing-- not there. Look for xyzabc etc etc etc... not there. In 388 pages, it CAN'T be there.So why not just go to a source like lynda . com, you ask? I've had that membership for a long time, and I think I might even renew it again. THAT is where Trish and Chris Meyer went, and their instructional videos are there. But here's the problem with a video lesson format: you're tied to the pace and teaching methods decided on by the people who *made* the videos. There is no reference manual. And that's what the Classroom in a Book desperately needed to be. I do not have a lot of patience for going through videos and spending literally ten or twenty times the amount of time I would spend to look up something in a true reference book. Sometimes, we need specific pieces of information easily and quickly accessible and put together in an understandable way rather than having to sit through several twenty minute videos to try to figure out something very specific that we want to do. (The Adobe help and user forums are absolutely not a solution either, which is too bad.) What really needed to happen is for Trish and Chris Meyer to keep coming out with books, whether in print or online format. That's really what they should do-- online editions of updated AE books-- instead of 100% sticking to videos That is the strongest aspect of the Classroom book, btw-- when you buy it, you can go online to peachpit press and use the online version. But I don't think it's enough. I haven't decided yet if I'll be returning this book, but that might happen, even though it isn't exactly bad... it's just not good enough.PROS:Does have some good infoTutorials are well writtenDoes cover some of what you need to knowOnline version included with the purchase is very nice.CONSDoes not cover the basics very wellDoes not contain comprehensive information about the nuts and bolts of AE in the way that the Trish and Chris Meyer books didNot a reference book, which it needed to beNot long enoughEmphasis on tutorials rather than constructing the "building blocks" of the basic knowledge you need to use AE as a tool.WAY too expensive for what it is.Overall, this isn't a bad book to have in your library... but I would seriously also buy Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects, 5th Edition. Even though it doesn't have info on the most recent updates, it comprehensively covers the basics, and the new CiaB does not. For $56.50, the new book needs to offer more than it does.

I've used a few classroom in a book textbooks for my graphic design courses at Arizona State.This book is just terrible compared to the books for InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. This book is full of typos, small dark pictures, and unclear instruction. I would not suggest getting this if you're a complete newbie to After Effects. If you've managed to mess around with the program and have a good feel for it, I would suggest this book as a guide at best. However you would probably be better off saving your money and following along with a tutorial found on Google or Pinterest.

I don't think you ever work though a complete project. It's very disorganized and jumps around. Like the author was going "oh, let me show you this. oh let me show you that." You start a project then its confusing because the next section doesn't pick up where you left off, you just abandon it.

You can learn more from a five minute youtube video.Donâ€™t waste your money.

I really wish I had taken the bad reviews to heart. It's extremely frustrating, what with the mistakes in the book combined with very tedious and complicated instruction. It became too much to tolerate, even for a patient person, by the fifth chapter and I have, for now, given up on this book.

i've paid tuitiion fe es for multiple college level graphic design courses that simply teach from these books. The adobe textbooks take the "long way" to explain everything, but its detailed. and it works. ... been very successful with other Adobe Suite Applications.

Kindle version: Lots of typos. Long captions unnecessarily describe everything in each screenshot. I wonder if a draft copy mistakenly made it into the Kindle distribution. Otherwise, the content seems fine - a good refresher/update for someone like me who has been away from AE for several years.

This was a great 101 introduction to After Effects. It's full of basic tutorials and some resource full tips for new updates and shortcuts included in the 2018 version. However, there were a few misprints and missing information in some tutorials that I had to google search and ask a pro about. However, if you want to begin the steps of learning after effects...this is the way to go.
