I don't really like Rakes personally, I enjoy men with honor and who don't just *spoiler* bang virgins and toss them. There were moments I liked, but the dialogue wasn't very believable I couldn't picture people actually saying these things. To much joking and teasing, it was just over the top. Also she skipped a lot of moments I would've wanted to see like when he proposed to her for example and gave her his mother's ring. And I didn't like how they treated Pricilla the writer tried to hard to get you to not like her to make Megan seem more justified in betraying her friend after knowing this guy for a few seconds. Honestly I didn't like either of the leads they were annoying, but I enjoyed the plot and how it progressed. It had the ability to get my heart racing with fear, and screaming for joy when she turned him down. All in all it was a good read, I might have enjoyed it more if I liked rakes.

Well- educated and traveled, Meagan could be sophisticated if she chose to do so. However, Meagan has no patience for the pretense of polite society. When she meets Lion Hampshire, the embodiment of male beauty and virility, well, he’s a bit irresistible. But Lion’s interest is focused on becoming a part of the newly formed colonial government and wants only a marriage of convenience. Obviously, this presents a problem for all concerned.The setting is snapshot of an extraordinary time in the history of our country. The characters are enthralling, and the love story almost painful at times. The cover perfectly depicts the characters, which as far as I can tell, is true of all of Mrs. Wright’s books.Other than a very few minor editing errors, I saw absolutely no downside to this book at all.

Lion Hampshire has planned his future out without any thoughts to Love. Due to his reputation of a rake, Lion must marry quickly so he agrees to an arranged marriage. Meagan is the daughter of a wealthy Virginia planter, who has lost her wealth to pay the debts of her parents. She schemes to become the maid of her best friend, Pricilla Wade,so that she doesn't have to go live with her spinster aunt. It just so happens that Priscilla agrees to an arranged marriage with Lion Hampshire. Priscilla is vain, whiny, and a bit spoiled. Meagan and Lion are thrown together to create a maddening entertaining read. You will laugh from page to page as Meagen puts Lion through several lessons about love.Prominent figures in history, such as George Washington, and Benjamin Franklin play some endearing roles in this book.Cynthia Wright's novels are always a pleasure to read as an historical and romantic value. The best of the best, don't miss this one!
but the ending made me smile it was so touching!Ms. Wright's "Touch the Sun" is a definite keeper to be reread again and again!I couldn't tear myself away from my computer because this was such a well written/page turner.There were times I thought the H was too old and world knowledgeable for the h but the way her character was written she definitely held her own.I could actually see these characters as if they were in a movie (this book would make an excellent movie, comparable to a "Gone With The Wind" type of genre, only "Spoiler", the main characters did not die).I was surprised and a little disappointed that Caroline and Alec (from book 1) didn't play a larger roll, and I thought the female and male villains fate should have been made more clear (but maybe that will happen if there is a book 3, which I hope there will be).This was a very enjoyable read about a wealthy high born young lady (Meagan) who, after losing her parents, basically becomes a poor orphan since her parents left her only debts. And instead of accepting the fate issued to her by others, she sets out to control her own destiny by initiating a self imposed adventure of taking on the character of a lady's maid for her childhood friend (Priscilla) who has basically been sold/betrothed to a stranger (Lion) by her brother (James) .The story takes place in the Americas during the late 1700's/early1800's when the first president is about to be elected. A man who just happens to have known Meagan since she was a very young girl via her parents.I would spoil the story if I were to describe anything further. Just take it from a historical romance junkie, like myself, who even though has read hundreds of novels, has not very often written a review. That's how much I liked this book!You won't be disappointed!
An absolutely wonderful read. Even the second time around.Lion is a misguided hero with an ambitious ill choreographed plan to achieve a seat in the budding nations Congress.Formerly a headstrong free-spirit with wealth to spare, the lovely and destitute Meagan hatches a wild scheme to pose as a lady's maid to her best friend.Match one eye on the prize man with one nothing left to lose woman and what do they get...? Electric chemistry...sleepless nights...clandestine meetings...hearts and heads in turmoil.Meagan steamrolls through Lion's life and blows it asunder. He begins to question everything he thought he wanted while struggling to stick to his goals.Poor, poor Lion, luckily he gets his priorities in order after Meagan shows him the way.
Once again woven into history is another of Ms. Wright's tales of deceit and disguise. Interesting to read of the budding government in our land when it was new and such fun to have so many characters from that era included in Megan and Lion's story the went so horribly wrong from the start. Strife in love as well as politics is a common theme in this book. It was so interesting to learn about the parents of Gramma Susan from the book "In a Renagades Arms", which is part of another series by this author.
