I'm a recently certified Open Water diver. I had read the author's first book while I was in the midst of my certification class, and I was happy to see a book on AOW as I am considering doing that certification next year. I appreciated the discussion of the aftermath of being involved with or witnessing a diving accident. Getting the AOW certification not longer after being OW certified seems to be a common occurrence, regardless or not the diver is ready for the next step. I've seen divers at the local quarry I knew were go through AOW dives and was surprised those particular divers were in the midst of AOW as they didn't seem "ready" (issues setting up their gear, etc.). I was glad to see the author's discussion of whether or not a diver was even ready for AOW, and that "remedial" (for lack of a better work) work on certain things might be needed before a diver was ready for the advanced class. Confirmed my thinking that doing some private sessions with my instructor for further work on buoyancy and kicks is a good thing before AOW. I highly recommend this book for new divers, and even those who have already gone through AOW as it touches topics that don't seem to be addressed often.

A must read for instructors as well as students. This book provides an excellent roundup of all the best wisdom that the Progressive Scuba Instruction movement of recent years has to offer. It serves as an exhaustive guide for the certified diver seeking advanced training, and it's also a manifesto of sorts for advanced instructors. The message to both is that advanced scuba instruction is about upping your game: your knowledge, your skills, your safety and your confidence. Advanced scuba instruction that fails to do this is just wasted time and money.

I have had this book for a couple months and would read a bit here and there when I had the chance and I got a chapter or two into it. Well I got some down time and started reading it again and I couldn't put it down once I got going on it. I am a tec diver and have had my fair share of training. And this book really made me think about the past training I've had and I recognize the good and the bad experiences that I did not think about before. It does not matter what your experience level is with diving, this book is for all divers! I highly recommend this book to all divers. James really brings out some amazing points for training and some fun ways of doing new training. I am not going to give any details away, you just need to get a copy of this book and find out for yourself!!!

He pulls no punches and tells it straight forward like it is! If you want excellent info on Advanced Level Diving... this is the book!!!

Jim's done a wonderful job... Should be required reading for anyone starting to get serious about recreational diving.

Bright, colorful, and all over social media, this cover was hard to miss. And reviews like this one from NPR's Fresh Air, "This is the kind of witty, sparkling, sharp novel for which the verb "chortle' was invented," sealed the deal. I knew this needed to be one of my summer reads.Julie and David used to be married. They used to have relationships with other people. Now they aren't. But they are still in a serious relationship. With each other.What if sex and all of the issues and drama that comes with it are removed from a relationship? What does a relationship between a man and a woman look like then? Relationships, deep connections between a man and a woman, soul mates aren't always what you'd expect.After David comes out, his marriage to Julie dissolves. Julie moves on to marry again and have a daughter, Mandy. Years later after Julie's second marriage ends and she finds herself struggling to run an Airbnb out of her home, she reaches out to David, a college counselor, to help Mandy with her college application. Even without the sexual intimacy, Julie and David once again grow close and David finds himself helping with much more than just college applications. This book is about love and friendship and what relationships can look like when you truly love someone. The characters are all struggling with their own issues, but their love and dependence on one another helps them to become their own version of a family. This was my first novel by this author and I loved McCauley's writing style. His storytelling was witty and clever, never dull or trite. There's depth to the story but without the intense emotional weight that can bring you down. McCauley keeps it light even when the subject matters get heavy.I highly recommend this read! Â

A feel good novel with an unexpected in the middle. I loved getting to know the characters and will miss them now that they are gone. The author made them all perfectly imperfect. I hope he’s written more.

Stephen McCauley's latest (and most delightful) comedy of manners reminded me of a fascinating book I read years ago by Shakespeare scholar Marjorie Garber called "Sex and Real Estate: Why We Love Houses." Garber's witty take on real estate was that after a certain age, many people transfer their lust from bodies to houses. In My Ex-Life, we meet an aging couple--a gay man and a straight woman--who were briefly married and who fell out of touch. What brings them together is the threat of losing their homes--he on the west coast, she on the east. This elegantly written and well-plotted novel takes us on their journey to reclaim their space and discover what makes a house a home. I'm such a huge fan of this author--who ranks among the best of the comic novelists writing today--and highly recommend all of his books.

David is having something of a mid-life crisis. Still smarting from the recent end of a relationship with his boyfriend, he then finds out that he's about to lose the sweet rental deal in San Francisco that he's enjoyed for many years. When the daughter of his ex-wife asks for David's help getting into college, which is how he makes his living, it seems a trip to New England, and down memory lane, is just the thing to give him perspective.“My Ex-Life” is the latest book by an author whose work, although not prolific, is consistent over the years. His books are generally gently paced, with no manufactured drama, reflecting what always feels like a very realistic slice of life. I did not find the book as outrageously funny as some of the blurbs suggest. There are certainly some good lines and funny situations, but the humor is almost always tinged with a hint of melancholy that makes it more bittersweet than laugh-out-loud.David is a very relatable character. Like many of McCauley's protagonists, he's a bit of an everyman rather than the physically perfect, perpetually young gay men found in most gay fiction. His ex-wife Julie is also very interesting, and over the course of the story, the picture of how these two unlikely individuals came to be married, and then divorced, becomes clear. Julie's daughter Mandy also plays a significant role in the story. Not only is she pivotal in bringing David and Julie together, but her coming-of-age struggle over the coarse of the summer provides much of the drama in the story line as well.The town of Beauport is also something of a character in itself. We see it largely through the eyes of David, who comes not as a tourist, but as someone who sees it as the typical New England seaside tourist destination that it is. It's a quite unvarnished picture which includes a few colorful townspeople as well.

When I was coming of age in the 1960's,one of my favorite TV shows was "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In"-It was downright hysterical-When I heard that a book had come out about the program,I knew I had to purchase it-Author Hal Erickson begins his book by listing several performers whose comedic style paved the way for "Laugh-In",such as the vaudeville team of Olsen & Johnson & Ernie Kovacs-"Laugh-In" ran from January 1968 to May 1973-Along the way,it introduced us to some truly talented individuals such as Arte Johnson,Ruth Buzzi,Goldie Hawn,& Lily Tomlin-"Laugh-In" was the top rated show from 1968-1970-However,once certain cast members started to leave,the show diminished in popularity-NBC cancelled the show in early 1973-There's an appendix in the back of the book that features a brief synopsis of each & every episode-If you're a bona fide "Laugh-In" fan,you must purchase this book.

I am a huge fan of "Laugh-In." If you are a fan also, this is THE book for you. It includes everything. The only thing missing are pictures- there are not any. However, all of the behind the scenes, inside info about the show, its history, series revival attempts (thus far- there is talk about another one,) and reunion specials, is all here. All of your questions are answered. I know mine were. Also included is a season by season episode guide, with a detailed synopsis for each episode for all of the six seasons.This book is usually pretty expensive, but it is worth the cost. Every TV show should have a book written about it that is this wonderfully brilliant. Double thumbs up!

It's been a year-and-a-half since Hal Erickson's "Sid and Marty Krofft" was published...too long for this reader, as Mr. Erickson is quickly becoming as vital to the world of TV history as Brooks and Marsh. The bulk of "From Beautiful Downtown Burbank" recaps the origin, growth, and ultimate demise of "Laugh-In" with Mr. Erickson's trademark savvy enthusiasm, the kind that comes only aftermonths of research and interviews. What's more, the book's appendix isn't to be missed, since you'd be hard pressed to find a more thorough "Laugh-In" episode guide anywhere (it even includes the never-been-syndicated sixth season). The lack of photographs is completely made up for by Mr. Erickson's gifted ability to recreate the show's backstage atmosphere. Can't ask for more than that in a history book... Perhaps the only question the book doesn't answer: why Ian Bernard replaced the program'soriginal theme song in the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th season, only to resurrect it in the 5th. Asking that is pure hairsplitting, though, and shouldn't dissuade anybody from doing themselves the favor of purchasing this book,a gripping read from a multi-talented writer. So until Columbia House or Rhino immortalize "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In" (heck, even after they do), "From Beautiful Downtown Burbank" is the definitive tribute to a marvelous and groundbreaking program.

I bought this set of tiny books, perfect for tiny hands, for my grandchild's first birthday. All the children at the party, ranging in age from 8 months old to 5 years old, absolutely loved them! They all loved how many tiny books there were, it was like opening a treasure chest to them. The 8 months old immediately enjoyed chewing on them, my 1 year old grandchild liked dumping them out, then putting them back in their sturdy carrying box; and a 5 year old read the stories to me. The illustrations are very sweet and cute, and the text is simple but educational. A really great product, that I would definitely buy again. They are great for taking along for a drive, or an outing, because they are small,and easy to tuck into a diaper bag. Great product!

I bought this manual for a Honda Cr-V. The manual is written to cover the Civic, Acura Integra, Civic, and CR-V since they presumably share a lot of common parts.In short, it tries to cover all models, and doesn't work very well for the CR-V.Example: I used the manual for a timing belt replacement. This manual doesn't even cover the engine that is in the 1997 CRV. The timing belt replacement section in the manual is for a single Over Head Valve (OHV) engine. The CRV has a dual OHV engine, so doesn't give you good instructions on how to perform this task.I would find another manual that is specific to the CR-V.

This came new wrapped in plastic. As a reference guide it is worth the money, especially if you don't have your owners manual. For many of the operations on the car it is helpful. However, with all three cars in one book it is obvious some sections need more detail. I've had better books then this one in the past both from Haynes and from Chilton. With this book I find myself having to go to youtube videos to get the finer detail and the how to.

I have purchased Haynes manuals before. I have happily used them as a quick-reference supplement to more comprehensive repair manuals. This manual contains useful information, photos and instruction on maintenance and repair. However, this time, Haynes tried to cover too many models for manual this size. The Integra, Civic and the CRV do share the same basic engine and other components. They also have differences and not all of those are covered. This manual should have been at least twice as thick. Then it would be more expensive. This is the first Haynes I have been disappointed with. I still use it though.

Bought it for my husband. Joked with him that it had pictures, so he could fix things without him knowing how to read. He loved it. Fast shipping. Brand new quality. Nothing negative to say.

This is my first Honda, a 1996 Civic LX, and I'm looking to get it in shape and use it as my daily driver for the next few years, hopefully. So I figured this supplement would be completely appreciated. It has great content, and I've perused the whole thing now for all the vehicles covered - so not to be mercurial - but it fell short in that it was spread across the three makes too thinly. I would have liked more on a handful of things, though what's inside was great to learn about and see pictures of. No diagram of the exhaust systems? It was just a little too light for a five star.It came wrapped and in the plastic, sticker and all. Perfect condition, shipped well, I only wish it were a hardcover (I should look into a digital copy) because if I left it in my Civ it would take a beating, Cheers.

I bought this for a friend who just bought a '96 Civic. I wouldn't own a car without the accompanying Haynes manual, so he shouldn't, either! I've used these books to replace engines and all sorts of other maintenance. They are fantastic! And buying these used is a great deal.

This is a good manual that covers a broad spectrum of repairs, it requires a little mechanical aptitude since it is not a detailed shop manual. The manual has photos showing the repairs and the descriptions are concise; there are sections providing specifications to make needed adjustments and details to assist you in getting started if you are a novice at working on cars. It is a good tool for basic repairs and a great value, you will not find a better manual at this price new or used.

The book is a steal of a deal., it pays for itself almost immediately ,, simply by giving information and knowledge you would never get elsewhere

McKeown lays out an interesting theory of the lifecycle of an organization through seven potential stages; Early Struggle, Fun. White Water, Predictable Success, Treadmill, The Big Rut, and The Death Rattle.The challenge for every organization is to progress through the first three stages (Early Struggle, Fun and White Water), enter into Predictable Success and stay there. Many organizations fall backwards or progress too far in the model and end up failing.My takeaway from this book is that I need to be very aware of these business stages for each organization I am associated with. I need to challenge myself and other business leaders to make it to Predictable Success and then remain diligent to stay there and not slide backwards or forwards.

I have come across reworked versions of this concept before but Less' book Predictable Success is a must read if you are in leadership. This had the clarity to provide understanding about jobs that I have left and tools for looking to the future. Very relatable and worth whatever time to spend contemplating it's content.

This book was a friend's present. He gave the book because I was very frustrated about how everything was going in the organization, reading this book I found that we were arriving to white waters and need to adjust some processes to arrive to predictable success. I really recommend this book, it will give your great insights on how to build a great organization.

I like the walk though and break down of stages an organization will find them-self in. The frame work in which success, stagnation and failure occurred in an organization and how to prevented the latter from happening.

Love this book and the helpful insight to move businesses from start up to scale. My business is 8 years old and we are in Whitewater. Wish we would have known the business life cycle in the beginning but now we have hope and a plan to grow and scale!

I can't say enough good things about Cut Loose. I loved the combination of the outspoken, have-no-shame heroine with the quiet but strong introverted hero. We need more heroes like James!! The sex scenes are smoking hot and the love is so tender and sweet you can't help be smitten with James and Frannie. This series has been so great, I cannot wait for Eliza's story!

***ARC Review***There are so many things I want to say about this book, but I’m not sure someone would want to read a two page essay. First off, I loved Frannie’s character along with her gang of misfits. She made me laugh until I thought I had a stomach ache and she made me want to slap her with some of the decisions she made. Second off, James “Beardo” has officially become my new book boyfriend. I’d just like to wrap him in a pancake and smother him in chocolate syrup.This story is told in Frannie’s POV. Frannie has had her childhood and the beginning of adulthood planned out for her by her overachiever mother. Instead of compliments, Frannie receives corrections. Instead of knowing what true love feels like, the only thing she knows is that love is held over your head and used against you.She frees herself of those binds that tie her to repression and begins to reestablish herself. In her skin, she’s the fun-loving friend who doesn’t tackle relationships and sticks to brief encounters until she meets James.James has his own burdens to bear. He’s the quintessential introvert. Give him a computer and he’s in hog heaven until his brother, Ryan makes him step out of his comfy box. Outside of his box, he finds himself obsessed with Frannie.But with all love stories, there’s a little bit of surprise to be tethered down.If you like a feel-good romance with hot under the sheets dancing with a mix of humor and a little bit of angst, Frannie and James’ story is for you.

What a wonderful read by Julia Wolf. This is the second book in the Sublime series and follows the group of gals at the salon on to the next adventure as well as the love story of Frannie (Franana) and James.We know from the first book that James/Beardo hooks up with Frannie. Lets just say that Frannie thinks the experience is awful but there’s something about James that she just can’t get over.While she continues to look for Mr. Right Now, James is still a constant in her life given he’s a bartender at her favorite hang out. What she doesn’t know is that he is also the brother of one of her best guy friends from her dancing days. Once day after dance class, she finds this out, much to her surprise. James and his brother, Ryan, are both surprised too.So as to not give away/spoil some of the best parts, we find out that James is younger than Frannie, remembers meeting her when he was younger and going to some of the dances to watch his brother when they were in town and he’s extremely intelligent/wealthy. He also has a tendency to get lost in his work and hide from life.Frannie finds it interesting and while spending more time with him, starts to fall for him. While James also falls for her, Frannie’s past and her history with her parents causes several problems for them in their relationship and she does some stuff to put the relationship at risk. But once all is out in the open, talked through they begin to move forward.We also find that Rach and Joe get engaged, Eliza finally ends things with Edward and moves on with help of the girls and their guys, we meet a new guy, Charlie (I hope he’s in the next book too) and that James and Ryan’s family owns a farm with goats on it.Such a great book and enjoyed it greatly. Can’t wait for Cut Free coming in Aug 2018 and will hopefully be Eliza’s story of love and happiness.

“Cut Loose” by Julia Wolf was such a sweet emotive read.I bloody adored James like so much; he was just so adorable in his whole un-surety and inexperience.I felt almost like we had reversed the roles here; with Frannie taking the part of the take what you want man with the F***ing and chucking and James being just that much younger; Twenty-three to her twenty-nine and lacking the social skills and life lessons to maybe quite keep up with Frannie’s matter a fact attitude to all things romantic.Now It was really nice to see James emerge from his shell and find his confidence and voice.He was so eager to absorb everything Frannie had to teach him a ready and willing student.And in my opinion, his masculinity was only enhanced by his inexperience; he was such a fast learner and it wasn’t long before he was taking the lead reins with Frannie which she really digged.It was also quite ironic to see Frannie flounder in confusion as she realises she’s in deep for the first time in her life and watching her running scared and in self-sabotage mode was like observing everything to not do if you want to succeed in the matters of the heart.Frannie was her own worst enemy; take about crappy logic this girl had it in spades.To be on the other side of those pesky feelings is something she was ultimately struggling with.I thought James seemed more than a match for his girl; his overall personality made him seem much more mature than his actual age and at times he definitely had more logic and wisdom than she had in her entire little finger.I read so many alpha male books that this was such a lovely refreshing change to just kick back and appreciate the sweet simplicity offered up here.And I especially loved the contrast between James manly size and his gentleness; a real-life gentle giant.What else can I tell you about this great read; erm Frannie is a former dancer and now hair stylist.James is a bit of a computer nerd slash bartender; he also had an especially well-conditioned beard; that Frannie really likes to sniff a lot; well I didn’t say she was quite normal now did I folks.This was dual POV fiction which is my favourite; there was a fantastic cast of great supporting characters and though “Cut Loose was part of a series this can definitely be read as a standalone; which I did fine.My only slight criticism here was that I thought Frannie was a bit OTT when it came to her deciding James had lied to her; come on now; pfft they were slight omissions at best; hardly the crime of the century; get a grip girl.I think its more likely she was just creating reasons to condone her own unreasonable and unlogical behaviour.So with “Cut loose” Frannie may have started things initially but its safe to say James definitely caught up and then some, and though there are no great shocks in the narrative here I still enjoyed this ever so much.“Cut Loose” at its heart was a fantastically easy read that pulled you into its warm gooey centre; a truly positive. fun and at times humorous experience.And on a final note; just go to say; my heart went pitter patter every instance these two uttered the repetitive words of Hi Frannie; hi James; it wasn’t what was said it was the way it was delivered.I was like Aww; how awkwardly cute; and that is where I’m going to leave it.Thank You to the Author for providing me with an ARC of “Cut Loose (The Sublime Book 3) ” of which I have reviewed voluntary.All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I received an advance copy from Ernest Dempsey, for my honest review and I also purchased a copy from amazon.com. Something I do for several of my favorite Indie Authors.I really liked 'The Denali Deception', although it's way over the top. Have come to realize with Dempsey, that just enjoy his creative mind verse worrying about his books being to unrealistic, predictable, or whether or not could this actually happen.I liked the tie in with the Civil War, the war had ended President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated and the Knights of the Golden Circle. Which was a secret society of Confederate supporters, who worked unseen behind the scenes or in plain view to help the efforts of the rebellion.You have a intertwining storyline, one right out of the headlines or at least the part with Russia/Ukraine conflict and Russia building up it's Military in the Arctic.Sean Wyatt, Tommy Schultz, Adriana Villa are a formative team, likable and better to have as friends verse an enemy. Now you can add Tommy's girlfriend June to the team, she makes a great addition and I like how Emily Starks has a bigger role in this one.Dempsey gives you everything you need in a action/adventure genre book, it's my type of book, full of twist and turns, fast paced, tension filled, that builds to an excellent conclusion that's gripping and the nasty characters lose in the end.I do like that his Sean Wyatt series has turned more and more into a modern day Western Where good always conquers evil, his characters are invincible, they get shot up, but always miraculously recover and the bad guys get killed in lethal ways.

As usual Ernest Dempsey has taken his readers on an thrill a minute, exciting adventure!!! This book was a fantastic read. I never tire of Sean Wyatt and Tommy Shultz and their ability to fight their way out terrifying situations!!! Denali Deception was a fast paced thrill a minute adventure!! These characters are the perfect "good guys"!!!! I really enjoyed the way historical events and characters were a part of this story. Once again I just COULDN'T STOP READING this book after the opening sentence!!!! This is definitely a GREAT BOOK and I can't say enough about the enjoyment and excitement involved in reading about the escapades of these characters, as they struggle to save everyone from the evil bad guys!!! This author REALLY knows how to write a thrilling, fast paced, edge of your seat adventure!!!!

I have read the entire series, and I can say without question this is my favorite to date. The action in this novel is turned up a peg, and it has a more gritty feel to it than prior installments. Sean and Tommy are up to their old antics, but seem in this story to spend far more time on the defensive, which makes for an excellent read. The entwined history is fantastic and adds a level of realism that just makes the story.I did recieve a free advanced copy of this book in advance for a fair and unbiased review. I have no affiliation with the author. In addition I have purchased the book to support one of my favorite authors in hopes he continues to churn out the continuing saga of Sean and the gang.

Ernest Dempsey just did it again! I don't know how he does it, but he keeps getting better and better, so that I no longer say, "This is my favorite" - because I know the next one will be even more exciting. The first sentence - "Sean Wyatt was dead." - had me almost in the fetal position, as if I had just lost my best friend. Then the book took off, and I did not put it down until it was done with me!I won't go into detail about the plot since many have done so, and have done so much better than I could, but I will say that if you don't get this book, you will be cheating yourself out of a thrilling read!Thank you again, Ernest Dempsey! You are the best!

This is my first read from Ernest Dempsey. I am sure if I were more familiar with the characters, I would have appreciated the story a bit more since I like books in this genre. But the dialogue between characters and the plot just didn't hang together....neither was particularly engaging. And the energy pyramid was completely unbelievable; the author offered no real explanation how this was possible. After all the buildup throughout the book, it was more than anti climatic. Sorry Ernest, I won't be back.

Each Sean Wyatt book has been better than the last, and this one is no exception. The action is nearly non-stop, only pausing for breathers at the time I'm about to pass out from holding my breath. I particularly like the descriptions of locations and the inclusion of historical facts throughout the book. This book is also well edited, which I thoroughly appreciate. Congratulations, Mr. Dempsey on another winner!

There's certainly gold in Dempsey's books. I have read the entire series and have lived every minute of reading. What could be more fun than a good conspiracy mixed in with our history. Dempsey's research keeps us close to historical reality while lacing in the drama of What If. I always appreciate his end notes pointing out fact and the fruits of his wonderful imagination. Read all of this series. Why not binge read them this summer?

Our heros are quick witted and quick fisted and racing to keep one step ahead of the sinister no-good-nicks who always seem to be right on their heals... from Western New York to Washington, Atlanta, Anchorage and beyond Sean Wyatt and his friends face twists and turns at every corner. ..If you're a fan of the flat out adventure novel in the mold of Clive Cussler and Andy McDermott then you're goring to enjoy passing the time with Ernest Dempsey.

I purchased this book on kindle app, and I was expecting it to be similar to Stormies praying wife book. Its not. It's not a full book, it's only the book of prayers (and it says journal). The reason why I am dissappointed and gave it three stars is because there is no mention or idication that this is just prayers. There should be a disclaimer, not marketed as a full book. Unfortunately, if you buy it as a kindle version you can't use it as a journal either. It would be a great quick reference, (each prayer is about 5 sentences) if that's what you're looking for - it's super quick reading. I returned it right away and plan to purchase the power of a praying parent instead. I'd like a little bit more content. It says 170 pages, so maybe I missed something but with the Kindle version I received, each chapter/day was less than a page each.

A great book that helps your prayer life over your children. Helps you consider praying for things that you may not have thought about on your own. Can be challenging at times as you really have to consider your own actions and the impact they have on your children. I highly recommend this for any mother!

This is a small book of prayers in a neat format. One side of the page is a prayer for you (the mom)... the other side of the page is a prayer for your children. Each "couplet" of prayers has a theme. The theme usually goes with a scripture and there's also space at the bottom of the page to write anything you want. I'm using this book for my morning alone time with God.

Small book fits perfectly into purse or tote. I love how there is a prayer for me and a similar prayer for my child. There is space at the bottom to write, but it is small; I just use the prayer journal I already have. Thank you

I love this book. It's such a relief to find a book of prayers that feel authentic, honest, straightforward, and also uplifting. I love that the author incorporates scripture in the prayers as well. They are perfectly chosen and very inspiring. This would be a great gift for a mom of children at any age.

These prayer books by Stormie Omartian are the best. Her prayers are on point! They focus on prayers for the family.

this is an excellent book it helped me in so many wasys although i am not married i would love to be one way and it still had helped in so many ways even though i am not married i would recommend this to any female

Absolutely love this book. It is SO helpful articulating thoughts and specific prayers over myself and kiddos. Especially during morning prayer time when I am especially tired, Stormie's words say what my words aren't but my heart is!
