I'm a voracious reader. Addicted to reading since I was a young child. I love and read a great deal of history. This book was hands down, one of the best written I've ever read on WWII. Laura Hillenbrand is now as beloved an author to me as Stephen Ambrose. My grandfather spent years in Europe during WWII. My mother tells the story of meeting her father for the first time when he came home after the war. He left when she was a toddler and she has no memories of him before the war. Sadly, there was no information on PTSD in those years. He did his best, but the war broke him in profound ways that would chase all his children and grandchildren through the years. This book has given me great sadness for what all the men suffered, but has also healed a wound. Grandfather didn't hate us all, he was merely dealing with a burden he could never share. Great book. Very well written. I haven't stayed up all night reading in many years, but this book have me that rare pleasure of trading sleep for getting lost in a story.

'The Complete Guide to Bow Making' should be named 'The Complete Guide to Bow Makers and Bow Making Companies'. The book is a collection of short stories about individuals that make bows and gives hunting and shooting tips and types of bows and some bow specifications. There is no detailed instruction for bow making. The book is for people that already know how to make a bow. For me, a complete novice, there is no useful information... only company names, addresses and phone numbers. There are a few websites that may be useful, but thats what the internet search engines are for.

This looks like an interesting book and I will get around to reading it. But let me be clear. It is not in the least "The Complete Guide to Bow Making" it purports to be. And it is not a "Traditional Bowyer's Encyclopedia". It is rather an encyclopedia of bowyer's at the time of its publication. In this respect it is an excellent book. If you are looking for a book on bow making, this is not going to be of any help to you.

If you want to read about people that make bows and how they got started in it this would be a great book. If you want to know the complete way to build your own bow this isn't worth buying you will get so little bow making knowledge from it unless you have been making bows for awhile then you might get something out of it. I have a hard time reading it interests me about as much as some stupid movie award ceremony.

I really need to learn to read the reviews but...seriously when the title says "The Complete Guide to Bow Making" you would think you could learn how to make a bow by reading it. Nope, nothing about "how to" in this book. The title should be "The history of people I think make good bows" It is my own fault, I read the title and believed the author, I should have read the reviews. I hope you don't make the same mistake. I think the book has a total of one illustration, there aren't even pictures of the styles of bows the different bow makers he talks about produce.

This is a complete book on the many well known bowyers from across the country. It let's you know what is involved in bow building and the nuances of building one. This was well worth the money for the budding bowyer.

Husband really loves this book. It is sometime hard with small print for him to read, but this print isn't bad. He is truly enjoying this book.

I may still use this book but it definitely was not what I thought I was purchasing. I would not call it a guide to bow making. I would call it a guide to bow makers. I do not like the book right now but if i find that i enjoy building bows and continue with the craft, it might prove to be a good piece of reference...

I was surprised at the disparity in ratings....It seems either you love this book, or you hate it. I loved it, but then again, I found much to identify with in this story. It's not surprising to me that the author felt almost relief after her husband passed....in dealing with fatal illnesses of loved ones, we often mourn long before the person actually leaves us. The process of growing plants allows us to understand that there is a rhythm to life, and a season for everything. The process of aging is unavoidable, no matter how many plastic surgeries you have. Better to face it unafraid, and make the most of it. How sad that some are so afraid of the changes of age, that they miss all the beauty of this most excellent time of life. :D

I really enjoyed this book from cover to cover. Joan was open and honest about her feelings and her life and I highly admire that. I know a lot of women who are "surprised" when their husbands pass away that they aren't devastated. It's not a slam against their marriage or against the man, it's just that they have a full life of their own and life goes on. Joan does say she misses her husband, but she was just surprised that she was ok by herself. I think I will be also if and when that day comes.I enjoyed the journal like aspect of the book. I also journal. I LOVE gardening and she talks of her challenges but how despite that, it is her passion. I felt a strong connection with Joan. I am totally glad that I bought this book and I recommend it to anyone who loves gardening and living a eco-conscious life.

Joan Gussow is a model for anyone facing the "third trimester of life", as she calls her expected final 30 years. As outlined in her previous book This Organic Life: Confessions of a Suburban Homesteader (it helps to have read it first, but is not necessary), she continues to eat fruits and vegetables that only she has grown in her home garden, despite continued assaults from the Hudson River and climate change. Her persistence is admirable, although it does occur to the reader that perhaps her homesite was not well-chosen. There is less nuts-and-bolts discussion of how she accomplishes her feat of self-sufficiency in this 9th decade of her life, and a bit more philosophical musing on the current state of the world. She continues to express frustration and dread at what western agricultural technology is doing to food and climate, is angered at the focus of American medicine on cosmetic surgery and its neglect of devastating diseases because they are less profitable, and seems frankly to be glad she probably won't be around to experience the worst of it. This is a sobering book, but the parts detailing how Gussow continues to overcome the obstacles thrown in her way by nature are uplifting; as a gardener I was inspired by her determination and joy in her successes with vegetables old and new each year. As a recent convert to mostly local foods myself, I definitely enjoy what I eat more than before, but Joan's book makes me aware that the Slow Food movement and other attempts to mitigate the effects of Big Ag may be too little, too late. After putting the book down, I felt a mixture of inspiration and sadness which after a week or so has evolved into increased determination to promote local, sustainable agriculture and fight the spread of mono-cropping and GE/GM food.

A very wise woman wrote this little book to help others age gracefully. A must-read for all aspiring little old ladies.

I purchased this book because I thoroughly enjoyed her previous book, "This Organic Life: Confessions of a Suburban Homesteader". I knew it, like the previous book, would ramble on across various topics, but the writing in this book was just to scattered for me. I praise her determination but can not recommend this book.

Well written and very practical to have in your shirt pocket or your gig case. It explains in a very concise manner from all the different shades on nuances to most of the great composers. Even though you might think you know everything about music, you'll always find something new and taken by surprise by some information you didn't know. Well worth the prize.

It was a gift for a musical high school student. He seemed very happy to receive the book. I have a degree in choral music and just scanning through the entries it seemed to cover a lot for the high school student.

Plenty of information here. Well organized, but, being a pocket edition, it's, well, a pocket edition, and info is a bit cramped. Great for on the road.Would recommend, but would purchase a full-size format next time.

A tiny treasure in a tiny pocket

This little book is helpful and has lots of information. I have looked up a few musical terms which were not listed, such as L'istesso Tempo. Definitions are concise.

Great little paperback that is easy to find what you are looking for quickly. It is very convenient. I would highly recommend it!

Not only does Hal Leonard's Pocket Music Dictionary have definitions of musical terms, it has a biographical listing of composers from ancient to modern times; and has a valuable time line of major composers. It also has reference charts of various musical symbols and other items. I am glad that I purchased it.

After a few decades of not playing music, I'm back ina community band. Thought I should geta music dictionaryto use. I play bass clarinet, so I noted that they had the bassclarinet as a bass clef instrument - NOT. They were also in error about eht range of theinstrument -- what they had was too small a range for even a Selmer student levelhorn. The definitions would get an F from my high school music teacher. For example,the define a valve instrument as "an instrument with valves". Remember being told do not define a word using the word(s) yuoui are defining. If you look up the definition of a symphonic band, they give concert band. Then when you go to concert band the definition is "A band that plays concert-style pieces". No mention of the instrumentation, etc. In the composers listing they have contemporary ones, e.g. Hank Williams Jr. Also some focus on guitars. The biggest omission is that where they define tempo words, e.g. andante, allegro they do not given ANY information about beats per minute, which of course would be very helpful and in fact part of a good definition. What shall I do with this book? Give it to an middle school student as it will ad something to their knowledge. As for myself, I will buy some other better music dictionary. Oh, check out the back cover of the image on the site. Back cover has the price as $4.95; yet is selling for $7.95.

I was recommended this cause it was similar to Blue Exorcist and Soul Eater, or even a mix of both. I have to say its quite close, A very interesting story plot.The story starting in a world that people are either dying or being consumed by infernal flames. The main character is a boy that has control of flames in his feet (the Devil's Footprints). He was dubbed the Devil/Demon cause of some shadowy circumstances about the death of his mother and younger brother. He is striving to rid of his title as the Devil, fulfill his promise to his mother to become a hero, and search for the truth of what have happened 12 years ago. Meeting a ragtag of weird people that will help him become stronger and reach the truth about the cause for the flames.

it was a great read and is by the same person who made soul eater

The things he Japanese come out with. If they make this an anime i will definitely watch it. it should be for adults because bursting into flames suddenly is NOT for the kids. Waiting on the others.

So far, I am expecting this to surpass "Soul Eater"!

For fans of soul eater this is a great read. Fun concept fun characters and great art.

Really good first volume of the series. The artwork is great. I like the idea that the main protagonist grins when he gets nervous, and of course the twist on firefighters.

Overall a good read. It's by no means a perfect manga volume, but it did a good job establishing this world and getting a feel for the characters. The visuals are really and pretty unique. A pretty fun read. Really just the last new arc that was starting on at the very end of this volume is kinda the bad part, it titters out a bit at that arc. But still good. Would recommend to check out if you liked Soul Eater.

I would have liked to see more of what the main character can do. If you enjoyed Soul Eater most likely enjoy.

To me, this seemed like a textbook, with very valuable business lessons. Very good illustrations of the actual negotiations scenarios from different fields including sports, government deals, etc. Only reason I am not giving 5 stars because of its textbook type format, but that is completely an individual opinion. One thing I noticed particularly is about generalizing the strategies explained here. I believe, in every situation, the context, timeline, stakeholders will be different and it might be difficult to apply the knowledge directly, and therefore, each situation should be dealt with the consequences of actions pertaining to that moment of time. Of course, the fundamental principles learned here will be helpful. Overall, this is a worthwhile book to add to my personal shelf and is in there now.

Another fantastic book by Deepak Malhotra. This book reminds us that negotiators are humans, using both real world examples (sports, entertainment, healthcare, technology, history, international relations, etc) and a few key principles. Having seen Malhotra teach (put this on your bucket list!), I especially appreciated the teaching tidbits he incorporated into the book. As someone who teaches negotiations to MBAs, I learned a lot!

Highly readable and applicable negotiating principles for all manner of interactions and conflicts though mostly for business. The author keeps the strategies and techniques interesting by framing them in the context of larger conflicts in which they were applicable.

This book is as fun to read as it is original and informative! A must-have for anyone looking to improve their negotiation skills.

I am a Computer Science professor who also teaches Analytics and Operations Research. This book is an excellent review or introduction to statistics which can be read in an afternoon or two. I will highly recommend it to MBA students who need to review or be introduced to the topic.

This is a good book for someone like me who is taking this class and knows nothing about statistics. I love it!

This book helped me with my stats class big time! Wish I would have had it from week 1. Definitely worth the investment! Concepts are laid out simply and explained in layman's terms. The only drawback is it does not cover the more advanved stats concepts introduced later in the semester, but it is still a total lifesaver! I do not regret this purchase at all! 4 stars for lack of content of more advanced concepts.

On Page 95 there are errors in the bold-faced text explaining how to calculate a Z test statistic. This text contradicts the explanation given for the same formula in Statistics for Dummies, Page 239. I will have to research the web to see if the sample standard deviation, or the population deviation, is used in the formula.Step 1 says to calculate the sample standard deviation. Step2 says to subtract the null value from the population standard deviation. It should say to subtract the null value from the sample statistic. Step 3 says to calculate the standard error with the population standard deviation. But we calculated the sample standard deviation in Step 1.Overall, Essentials often clears up something in the main Dummies book, and is much less wordy. I like using the two together, but certainly not with the issue presented here.

I bought this for the barista at my local Starbucks. We are always talji g about her college classes. Her last class at the Junior College is Statistics and she was very nervous. She thinks it will help her understand it.

It wasn't as helpful as I thought it would be. For me at least, it brought nothing to the table that I could find in my textbook. This book is probably best for someone who occasionally messes with Statistics and needs a reference to refresh their memory on something.

This book breaks statistic into digestible chunks. If you can handle basic math, you can handle this book.

This book helped me get a better understanding of statistics and I even got an A in my class. Never thought that day would come!
