My Fijian husband says it sounds like the book was written by a white guy :/ maybe there are just so many dialects that it would be hard for any book to give you the information you need. Although I haven't had that problem with German or Greek books.

Can help with grammar structure and intonation/stress, but is highly inaccurate. There are also far too many dialects in Fiji for this to really be helpful...Everyone you practice with will correct your attempt differently.

I find it helpful that this phrasebook includes good information about the locals and the proper phonetics of each word and letter. Although, with this phrasebook it is easier than learning it yourself, Lonely Planet shows once again that language learning can be just as fun as it is difficult which makes it all pay off!

This book has an excellent introduction to Fijian grammar and pronunciation, which was very helpful. Also includes words and whole phrases (and a pronunciation guide to those) that you might need to use during your trip.I had the pleasure to meet Mr Geraghty during my trip to Fiji this summer, and he is a very nice British man who is fluent in Fijian and was kind enough to invite our group of anthropology students to a village on Viti Levu with whom he has worked extensively in the years he has lived in Fiji.

This is a great book with alot of vocabulary and really useful tips and hints. The only thing this and ALL Fijian language courses are missing an audio component. I can read the words but I'm not sure if I'm saying them correctly.

Pros...I learned a few tips I did not already know about drawing.It was short, quick and easy to read.The repeditivness in the examples made it easy not to forget the advice that was given.Cons...The book was short for the price paid.Most of the pages were just photographs with maybe a sentance or two describing what is in the picture.Some of the pages repeaded the same advice over and over and over and over and over and over and over which made the book even shorter.Most of the tips could be found on youtube for free, or by google or yahoo or anything that doesn't cost.Reasons for rating...I took away one star because the price alone.I took away a star because not only did the book repeat itself a lot, but there were a lot of common spelling errors, grammar mistakes, and tip advice that did not line up with other tip advice. This book was not well put together.I took away another star because it was a waste of my time that I can not get back and a waste of money.The reason I gave it one star because it did actually give me a few tips I took with me and will always use. (Not worth $9, but at least I got something from it.)I gave a star because the book was as it states it is. For anyone who knows nothing about drawing, this is a great starter book. Maybe invest in one that costs a bit more with a lot of knowledge to take in. But for those who need to be reminded of the same thing in the same way, but with a different example, then this is the book for you.Cut the price in half and I would add one star to my rating if that makes any difference.

I am a newcomer to drawing, and especially to attempting portraiture. This was helpful, although the grid approach did take a little work. That said, I am glad I brought this book.

This survey of mid '80s to mid '90s magazine design is notable for the breadth of examples -- some 70 different titles. Most of these are given their own spread, with a few hundred words about each, several sample covers and several sample interior spreads. As with most books of this kind, art and design titles tend to dominate, along with lifestyle, and culture, although other categories include news and business, as well as science and technology. Most of the titles are from the U.S., with the typical smattering of European titles (is there any book on magazines that doesn't include Bennetton's "Colors"?), an Asian title and a few Brazilians. The text is good when it isn't marred by the numerous typos and occasional references to design features that aren't apparent in the sample images. In fact, a recurring problem with the book is the size of the sample images. Many are too small to adequately present the design solutions, and the book would have been better served by fewer, but larger, reproductions. Overall, a useful survey, but some ten years on, a but dated.

This introductory survey at magazine editorial direction and design layout is divided into five sections to give a brief discussion on magazines in various categories: Art, architecture and design; news and business; lifestyle; science and technology; and culture. Each survey on a particular magazine is only given a two- page overview with just a few words and some irrelevant pictures chosen from the mag. Though some points are insightful, further elaborations are lacking.

These are questions you might or might not have thought about. I found myself answering them as I read along, which I'm sure was the authors intent. This, in my opinion, could be a little question game you play on the road or with friends to get to know someone's take on life and what they value. There's one question that asked: "Two fires are raging. You can rush into one house and save your child. Or you can rush into the other and save 100 people. Which house?"I am a mother, I love my child more then anyone or thing. My answer would be my child.These are the kind of in-depth questions you will be asked in this book. If it wasn't for the fact that I am a fan of Author Neill's and that the book was free, I wouldn't have saw myself purchasing it. Yet, I loved the questions that are asked. I'm going to use them on some of my friends and family. This to me is the ultimate in-depth questions game: To know someone's deep dark feelings.

Great conversation starters and even better if you reserve judgement of the answers you hear. There were a few exceptional questions and just a few that fell flat but over all, quite smart. There can also serve a excellent journal prompt to crack writers block.

Definitely out of the box questions and very thought provoking. Great subject matter to get to know people. Good structure in that it wasn't all multiple guess or single answer..there is variety. 4 out of 5 because some of the questions were a far bit dreamy..or fantasy like. I would definitely bring this out at my dinner party/game night. Look Fwd to reading more.

Fascinating and thought provoking questions that run the full gamut of topics and life scenarios. Great conversation starters or just plain fun. Interesting to see how different people's answers vary. Could be a great party game.
